Happy New Year

The year got off to a lively start for the branch. The January meeting was very well attended, with everyone raring to go, and excited for the year ahead.  Margaret Cunnane demonstrated a very clever idea for making use of old umbrella fabric by refashioning it into a little foldable shopping bag. Sandlin Poth showed us how to make a very handy tote for our cutting mats and rulers.

The Beginners Class was held in the afternoon. We are all looking forward to seeing the results of our beginners learning over the coming months.

Christmas Challenge - Mug Rug

Our Christmas challenge this year was to make a Mug Rug – something that is apparently quite common in America but not so well known to the vast majority of us in the Western Branch. A Mug Rug as the name suggests is a small place mat that has space for a cup/mug and a biscuit or piece of cake. The mat is placed onto the arm of your chair to protect it from spills and crumbs.
There were Mug Rugs in abundance at the Christmas party and as was previously decided we did a lucky dip, no names attached so you didn’t know who made the one that you picked out, unless like me you plagued everyone until you found out. Thank you Mary O’Brien for the beautiful Mug Rug that now graces my bedside locker.
